In July, the global economy continued its slow recovery trend. Following Canada and the European Central Bank, the Bank of England cut interest rates for the first time since March 2020. The global inflation level and the operating conditions of the textile industry continued to improve. Demand for sewing machinery products in regional countries such as ASEAN, Latin America, Africa, and South Asia continued to warm up. China's exports to regional markets such as Vietnam, Brazil, Pakistan, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Egypt continued to show a significant year-on-year increase. The industry's monthly export value was $296 million, a year-on-year increase of 19.84%, and a month-on-month decrease of 4.57%. The industry's export situation continued to stabilize and improve, but the growth rate slightly slowed down compared to the second quarter
Export Overview
According to data from the General Administration of Customs: From January to July 2024, the cumulative export value of China's sewing machinery products was $1.902 billion, a year-on-year increase of 11.46%. Among them, the export volume of industrial sewing machines was 2.68 million units, with an export value of $862 million, respectively increasing by 2.09% and 7.20% year-on-year; the export volume of embroidery machines was 57,000 units, with an export value of $343 million, respectively increasing by 35.09% and 29.08% year-on-year; the export volume of pre-sewing and post-sewing equipment was 1.22 million units, with an export value of $280 million, respectively increasing by 56.58% and 14.09% year-on-year. All major product categories in the industry showed an upward trend in exports.

Monthly Export Value of China's Sewing Machinery Industry
In July, China's sewing machinery product exports were $296 million, a year-on-year increase of 19.84%, and a month-on-month decrease of 4.57%. Among them, the export volume of industrial sewing machines was 400,000 units, with an export value of $133 million, respectively increasing by 5.58% and 19.54% year-on-year, and decreasing by 19.51% and 9.43% month-on-month; the export volume of embroidery machines was 5,711 units, with an export value of $55 million, respectively increasing by 4.71% and 34.83% year-on-year, with the export value decreasing by 2.85% month-on-month. In July, all major product categories in the industry showed a year-on-year increase in export volume and value.

Overseas Export Market Situation
From January to July 2024, China's exports of sewing machinery products to Asia, Latin America, and Africa showed growth, while exports to Europe, North America, and Oceania showed a year-on-year decline. Among the regional markets, China's exports to the "Belt and Road" markets amounted to $1.328 billion, a year-on-year increase of 20.14%, accounting for 69.81% of the industry's export value, an increase of 5.05 percentage points compared to the same period last year; exports to the RCEP markets amounted to $572 million, a year-on-year increase of 32.16%, accounting for 30.06% of the industry's export value, an increase of 4.71 percentage points compared to the same period last year; exports to the ASEAN markets amounted to $503 million, a year-on-year increase of 44.84%, accounting for 26.43% of the industry's export value, an increase of 6.09 percentage points compared to the same period last year; exports to the South Asian markets amounted to $487 million, a year-on-year increase of 39.89%, accounting for 25.60% of the industry's export value, an increase of 5.20 percentage points compared to the same period last year; exports to the West Asian markets amounted to $157 million, a year-on-year decrease of 12.29%; exports to the EU markets amounted to $81.38 million, a year-on-year decrease of 23.96%; exports to the East Asian markets amounted to $60.33 million, a year-on-year decrease of 20.36%; exports to the Central Asian markets amounted to $54.36 million, a year-on-year decrease of 44.24%.

Specifically, looking at the export to 201 countries and regions from January to July, more than half of the markets showed a positive year-on-year increase in export value. The top four export markets (India, Vietnam, Pakistan, Brazil) all showed significant year-on-year growth in export value. Among the top 20 export markets, 15 markets showed a positive year-on-year increase in export value, with 7 markets showing an increase of more than 30%, and 1 market showing a doubling of export value, namely Pakistan.
India remains the largest export market for China's sewing equipment. From January to July, China's cumulative exports of sewing machinery products to India amounted to $296 million, a year-on-year increase of 26.36%, accounting for 15.55% of China's industry export value; exports to Vietnam amounted to $213 million, a year-on-year increase of 68.30%, accounting for 11.19% of China's industry export value; exports to Pakistan amounted to $92.8 million, a year-on-year increase of 157.15%, accounting for 4.88% of China's industry export value; exports to Brazil amounted to $83.92 million, a year-on-year increase of 49.32%, accounting for 4.41% of China's industry export value. In addition, China's exports of sewing machinery products to some ASEAN markets such as Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, South Asian markets such as Bangladesh, African markets such as Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, and Latin American markets such as Mexico, Colombia, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Paraguay, Nicaragua, as well as East Asian markets such as South Korea, and Middle Eastern markets such as Iran, Iraq showed a year-on-year increase in export value. Among them, exports to Pakistan, Hong Kong China, Serbia, Azerbaijan, Venezuela, Paraguay, and other markets showed a doubling year-on-year increase. However, exports to North American markets such as the United States and Canada, East Asian markets such as Japan, European markets such as Germany, Poland, Italy, the Netherlands, regional markets such as Turkey, Nigeria, and some markets in Russia and Central Asia that grew rapidly last year showed a year-on-year decline in export value to varying degrees.

In July, China's exports of sewing machinery to partial markets such as South Asia, ASEAN, Latin America, Africa, and Central Asia showed rapid year-on-year growth, while exports to partial markets such as the United States showed a year-on-year decline. Among them, exports to ASEAN amounted to $80.71 million, a year-on-year increase of 65.61%; exports to South Asia amounted to $73.73 million, a year-on-year increase of 33.45%. Specifically, exports to India amounted to $46.28 million, a year-on-year increase of 15.14%, and a month-on-month increase of 2.86%; exports to Vietnam amounted to $35.64 million, a year-on-year increase of 88.92%, and a month-on-month increase of 12.56%; exports to Brazil amounted to $13.46 million, a year-on-year increase of 72.66%, and a month-on-month decrease of 33.75%. In addition, China's exports of sewing machinery to markets such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, Algeria, Egypt, Singapore, Thailand, Iraq, Iran, Morocco, Germany, the Philippines, Hong Kong China, Taiwan China, Italy, Sri Lanka, and other markets showed a double-digit year-on-year increase, among which exports to Pakistan, Iran, Hong Kong China, Taiwan China, Kazakhstan, the Dominican Republic, and other markets showed a year-on-year increase that doubled; while exports to the United States, Russia, Japan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates, Mexico, the Netherlands, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Peru, Nigeria, the United Kingdom, Australia, Myanmar, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, and other markets showed a year-on-year decline to varying degrees.

Import Overview
According to the latest customs data, from January to July 2024, the cumulative import value of China's sewing machinery products was $264 million, a year-on-year decrease of 55.47%. Among all major product categories, except for pre-sewing and post-sewing equipment, and home sewing machines, which saw a significant year-on-year decline in import value, the import value of other major product categories showed a double-digit growth trend. Among them, the import volume of industrial sewing machines was 36,600 units, with an import value of $60.35 million, respectively increasing by 61.59% and 38.00% year-on-year; the import volume of pre-sewing and post-sewing equipment was 11,569 units, with an import value of $141 million, respectively decreasing by 42.26% and 72.23% year-on-year; the import value of sewing machine parts was $49.79 million, a year-on-year increase of 62.48%; the import volume of embroidery machines was 394 units, with an import value of $6.84 million, respectively increasing by 14.20% and 124.67% year-on-year; the import volume of home sewing machines was 70,400 units, with an import value of $5.86 million, respectively decreasing by 12.25% and 20.84% year-on-year.
In July, China's import value of sewing machinery products was $32.49 million, a year-on-year decrease of 61.09%, and a month-on-month increase of 31.14%. Among them, the import volume of industrial sewing machines was 2,952 units, with an import value of $5.26 million, respectively decreasing by 1.99% and 22.00% year-on-year, and decreasing by 27.93% and 20.70% month-on-month, marking the first decline in import value since 2023; the import volume of pre-sewing and post-sewing equipment was 1,088 units, with an import value of $17.56 million, respectively decreasing by 79.66% and 74.48% year-on-year; the import value of sewing machine parts was $7.02 million, a year-on-year increase of 24.87%; the import volume of home sewing machines was 10,000 units, with an import value of $0.82 million, respectively decreasing by 38.29% and 53.42% year-on-year.
